Overview

RICHARDSON & ASSOCIATES LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE is a Washington, D.C.-based landscape architecture firm specializing in residential and specialty commercial projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic and select locations nationwide.

Founded in 2014 by Joseph Richardson, PLA, ASLA, the firm designs landscapes ranging from urban courtyards and suburban gardens to large country estates. Richardson is a graduate of Louisiana State University’s Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture and is registered to practice landscape architecture in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

Richardson & Associates provides comprehensive landscape architecture services encompassing site planning, master planning, garden and planting design, outdoor living spaces, pools, terraces, recreational areas, and the coordination of landscape construction. Working closely with homeowners, architects, interior designers, builders, and contractors, the firm develops landscapes that create meaningful connections between people, architecture, and the land.

The firm’s residential landscape architecture portfolio includes projects in Washington, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Arlington, Alexandria, McLean, Great Falls, and surrounding communities.

Mid-Atlantic: The firm undertakes residential and specialty commercial landscape architecture projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, including urban properties, suburban residences, country homes, and large estates. Its regional work spans a range of architectural styles, property types, and landscape conditions.

Nationwide: Richardson & Associates also accepts select landscape architecture commissions nationwide, extending the firm’s Washington-based practice to residential and specialty commercial projects beyond the Mid-Atlantic.

Services

Residential Landscape Architecture: Richardson & Associates designs landscapes for urban residences, suburban properties, and country estates. Projects may include gardens, courtyards, terraces, swimming pools, outdoor kitchens and dining areas, recreational spaces, paths and drives, water features, planting, privacy screening, and other elements that connect a home with its surrounding landscape.

Master Planning & Site Design: The firm develops comprehensive landscape master plans for properties of varying scales, coordinating architecture, circulation, topography, planting, outdoor living, recreation, views, privacy, and site conditions. For larger estates and complex properties, master planning provides a cohesive framework for improvements that may be implemented in phases over time.

Landscape Project Development: Richardson & Associates provides landscape architecture services from initial planning and design through documentation, permitting, and construction. The firm collaborates with architects, interior designers, builders, landscape contractors, and other specialists to coordinate the many elements of a project and carry the landscape design through implementation.
