Inspired by their experiences at the Hamptons, the homeowners wanted to create a Hamptons-style garden sensibility at their home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. To create the luxe charm, open space, and neat symmetry the client desired, Richardson & Associates’ plan included a swimming pool surrounded by a lush carpet of grass. A minimal amount of stone tile paving is utilized for the chaise and entertaining areas to maximize the swath of lawn. The spare, yet elegant vision was achieved with complex engineering, which leveled the rear slope, and a limited palette of materials. Orderly boxwood sets the tone while hydrangea, liriope, hollies, and “New Dawn” roses soften the edges.
